Meet the Speakers:
Tim McDonald, Chief Patient Safety & Risk Officer, RLDatix
Dr. Tim McDonald currently serves as the Chief Patient Safety & Risk Officer for RLDatix. Prior to joining RLDatix, Dr. McDonald served as the president for the Center for Open and Honest Communication at the MedStar Institute for Quality and Safety and a Professor of Law at Loyola University – Chicago. Dr. McDonald is a physician-attorney who has assisted more than 200 hospitals and health systems to implement a culture of “normalized compassionate honesty” combined with “fair and accountable culture” transformation. Dr. McDonald has received numerous national and international Patient Safety awards including the American College of Medical Quality’s Founder’s Award, the Institute of Medicine – Chicago Patient Safety Award, and the Medically Induced Trauma Support Services (MITSS) Hope Award. Dr. McDonald holds an A.B. Degree in Chemistry from Wabash College, an M.D. from Indiana University School of Medicine; and a J.D. from Loyola University School of Law.
Jean Harpel, MSN, RN, GCNS, CPASRM
Operations Manager, PSRQ Aging Services, ECRI
Ms. Harpel is a geriatric clinical nurse specialist and a risk management analyst. In her present role, she provides environment-of-care safety and security and quality and risk management consultation to aging services/post-acute care providers. She has developed institutional- based learning programs utilizing electronic media, traditional lecture, just-in-time activities and bedside initiatives that have focused on safe and efficient care delivery.
