Sue Corkill from Bryan Medical Center has been a nurse for almost 40 years. She spent most of her career working in the operating room but transitioned into Quality about ten years ago when she started the Non-Surgical Quality Improvement Program at her then employer. So, when Sue agreed to share her insights on managing patient safety events with us in a webinar, we were ecstatic.
If you missed it, here are some of the highlights from Sue’s presentation:
- Reporting and learning from patient safety events are just as important as reporting harm
- In order to act in a quick and timely manner, it is vital to have real-time alerts, as well as all follow-up information in one convenient place so that nothing is missed
- Leveraging the tools available in RL6:Risk and RL6:Feedback, Bryan Health was able to capture safety events and help teams classify them
- Leadership involvement, was crucial in encouraging an organization wide focus on reporting safety events and preventing harm
