Take Your RLDatix Peer Review to the Next Level

Increase efficiencies for FPPE and Mortality Reviews (M&M) through custom configuration and automation.

RLDatix’s Peer Review software is a powerful tool to assess the qualifications and competencies of healthcare staff. It allows for constructive feedback, celebration of exemplary care, and access to peer review data in one secured role-based system. In this blog we will explore configuration and automation options top optimize your workflow.

Customize your Peer Review to Support FPPE

Healthcare organizations with RLDatix Peer Review can use our integration services to help customize to meet their specific organizational needs. Using the software to create specific FPPE Peer Reviews (Focused Professional Practitioner Evaluations) helps organizations meet Joint Commission accreditation professional practice evaluations standards for clinicians, physicians, and other healthcare employees.

According to The Joint Commission’s hospital requirements, FPPE is a process whereby the medical staff evaluates the privilege-specific competence of the practitioner that lacks documented evidence of competently performing the requested privilege(s) at the organization. This process may also be used when a safety or quality question arises such as of a currently privileged practitioner's patient care such as a patient death or readmission.

FPPEs for medical staff helps strengthen patient safety and quality by reviewing competency. They may also help to protect your organization from future medical malpractice and costly legal payouts.

FPPEs can be triggered from incidents, grievances, quality of care issues or opportunities for learning. By custom configuring the module for FPPE your organization can easily align with Joint Commission’s FPPE requirements, examine outliers in staff metrics, ensure reviews are completed in a timely manner, and have a digital record for future surveys.

Working closely with your organizational subject matter expert, the RLDatix team can help configure a FPPE peer review by building custom mappings between codes in your electronic medical record (EMR) and fields in RL6:PeerReview. The mapping can be used to create a customer File Interchange Module (FIM) import package to generate new files based on specific criteria.

Automatically Trigger a Peer Review from your EMR

Outcomes of peer reviews can lead to positive action plans for long-term change. Improve the level of patient and organizational safety through Peer Review with EMR integration. Peer Review triggers can automatically create a peer review file directly from an EMR to help make sure providers are evaluated when involved in specific severe events, as defined by your organizationThis eliminates duplication of data entry, improves workflows, and increases accuracy of information. Customers may also see an increase in newly created peer review files, reduction of their administrative time, and reduced costs and litigation through early identification.

You can set-up this automation by using the FIM (File Interchange Module) to import chosen Event Triggers data from your EMR. Any patient record that meets defined criteria can be considered for triage into a peer review file by the peer review coordinator. Example triggers include:

  • Morbidity and Mortality (M&M)

  • Readmission within 48 hours

  • Unexpected transfer to higher level of care

  • Return to surgery within 30 days of hemorrhage

  • Emergent surgery/procedures

  • Transfer to ICU

Not Just for Physicians

RLDatix Peer Review software is highly configurable and can be used for nursing peer reviews as well as for other clinical staff. The system’s configuration tools support flexible form design and workflows, greatly improving end-to-end processes.

Common reviews can be initiated from adverse events such as falls, preventable adverse drug events, or complaints. It can be difficult to recall event details when a review process takes too long. RLDatix Peer Review software can help reduce this this length of time and improve closure days such as:

  • Referral to final score and closure days

  • Assignment to reviewer to closure days

  • Reported date to closure days

  • Event occurrence date to closure days

Leverage Peer Reviews for your Credentialing Process to Increase Efficiency

Peer review can be a significant part of quality provider management. Gain a complete view of your provider performance by aligning peer review with your credentialing and privileging process

Adding peer review files with particularly noteworthy outcomes to your provider evaluation can reduce time invested by your committeesTime can also be saved by accessing and thoroughly evaluating details of digital, rather than paper, files in advance of a credentialing meeting. Discover more about holistic peer review performance information with provider management.
